My name on the cover

Saturday, 3 May 2008 9:34 A GMT-04

I just want everyone to know because this makes me uncomfortable.  I have a huge ego, but my name on the cover of AAM is not part of that.  Amazon requires the author name on the cover and that's why it's there.  No other reason pulpsters.

Now, my name is in huge letters on the tee shirts - so suck it up.  :)

AAM 3

Friday, 2 May 2008 11:34 P GMT-04

We are less than a month away from being a year old and I wanted to do a few shouts to people in gratitude.

Writer Procrastinator has been a huge cheerleader for us and has been there from the beginning.

Bill Cunningham has been an inspiration with his thoughts on the new media that faces us.

John Rogers has also inspired us with his views on Internet distribution and his amazing stories.

Katie Schwartz has been awesome and provided kicks-in-the-butt when needed and the bitching gets out of hand.

The writers and artists are the whole burrito here and we plan to provide more information on them in the coming months.  I'm not slighting you gang by not talking about you yet - soon!

Editor  Katherine tries to dig time out of her hectic Hollywood life to give us nuggets of wisdom. I often worry about how many dead men she wants to sleep with.

Editor-in-Chief Tim is the eighth wonder of the world.  He is the bedrock that makes AAM happen.  He shapes the vision and flavor of every issue.

He is also scared of Bigfoot and that makes me laugh.  I mean that.  I don't laugh with him, but at him.

Amazon Update - The Madhatter's Tea Party

Wednesday, 16 April 2008 9:41 P GMT-04
Amazon, Amazon, Amazon.
I tried again to modify and correct the 138 page issue of AAM 2 before submitting to the cruel people of Createspace/Amazon.  I have done this countless times and it usually runs about 4 hours from page 1 to 138.  Fine, I accept this as being the publisher of the wonderful and highly desired collection of rousing tales of adventure this little ePulp represents.  I just want to get this puppy on Amazon to open more markets and add different levels of respectability to AAM to better serve our creators.
Well, I have the rejects from Createspace that tell me repeatedly that the margins are not correct.  I have reset this margin over and over.  Others have reset the margins to Amazon's spec and still the turn down.
I finally got a hold of someone to check into the situation.  Here is what they said.
"The margins you are referring to are margins set on a page size of 8.125 x 10.25".
The text file was submitted at the page size of 8.125" wide10.25" high. The text block is not set up properly for the trim size of 5.25 x 8, and much of the text will be cut off when the book is trimmed to size. Please go back into the native program which was used to create the PDF and set a page size of 5.25 x 8, then set your margins."

Did you see what they said? 5.25x8 is why my margins are wrong. However, I submitted the files to trim at 8x10! They have been using the wrong trim sizes on their end.
"We apologize for the confusion regarding your trim size and appreciate your patience in the matter."
Ah, ah, aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
Next letter from them.
"The interior file meets the submission specifications; it is not necessary for you to make any revisions to this file or upload it again."
Yea! Everything is milk and honey right?
"The cover file is too small to fit the selected trim size. You may wish to review the Artwork and Templates section, available under the Books section on the Help tab."
SWEET ZOMBIE JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The cover is not right after months of it meeting specifications! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Wow, I didn't realize going mad could be so freeing.

I fought the Amazon and Amazon won

Monday, 7 April 2008 11:20 P GMT-04
We will not post AAM 2 on Amazon.  I have reformatted the magazine over two dozen times and they keep rejecting it for margin errors.  You can't talk to anyone at Amazon about the vague description in the email and I am done.  I will reformat the issue and place it on Lulu instead (because Amazon has different size requirements of course).

A long battle that we lost and I hate it.  Oh well, moving on.

A few quick notes

Tuesday, 1 April 2008 5:38 P GMT-04

Just a reminder to everyone that the third issue will be available on April 30th.

We have setup an Astonishing adventures Magazine group on Facebook.  Go here.

I also wanted to remind any of our contributors to email us with your new projects you would like to promote.  We would love to help in anyway we can.  Thanks!

To everyone who submitted a story for issue #3....

Tuesday, 4 March 2008 9:17 P GMT-04

I will contact each and every one of you directly by the end of this week to inform you whether of not your story will be included in the third issue.

I know some of you have been waiting a long time, and I apologize.  I had to wait until the submission deadline passed before making any final decisions.  This seems to me to be the fairest way to proceed.  The thing is, as the deadline grew closer we received a mini-avalanche of submissions.

I now have a large number of great stories to choose from.  My problem is, now that I'm working with a budget, that I no longer can include all the great stories that we received like we did for the first two issues.  (That isn't to say that we published every story we got; there were some real stinkers that were rejected, mostly from some guy named Carlucci.)  I have to pick and choose, making sure that the issue is balanced: can't have too many Westerns, have to make sure there are enough monkeys, etc.

I have some hard decisions to make.  Luckily, I have my trusty bottle of bourbon to help me make them.
